Walk-A-Thon Wrap-Up & Thanks

“Families Shine” 2-Mile Walk-A-Thon

Press Release

On Saturday, September 27th, a lovely autumn day, Emmanuel House International held its very first “Families Shine” 2-Mile Walk-A-Thon at the Upper Park of Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park. Walkers gathered excitedly, coming from Putnam, Westchester and Dutchess Counties. Some came solo and some came as teams but all made new friends before the end of the day. With their filled pledge sheets, along with bottled water provided by ShopRite of Carmel, in hand, Walkers helped to make a difference in the lives of our Moms and Moms-to-Be, and their Babies and Families, and to help them shine in crisis situations.

To get a little friendly competition going, which would further help our “Families Shine,” the individuals and group with the greatest pledge sums would receive signed limited edition prints of “Morning Star” provided by an anonymous donor. Peg, Mary Elizabeth, and Jennifer had the highest totals as Individuals and St. John the Evangelist of Mahopac had the highest Team total. Thanks so much to these Winners and to all the Walkers! With every step they took they helped our ”Families Shine“ so much brighter!

As a reminder, EHI provides Moms and Moms-to-Be, and their Babies and Families, at no charge to them, confidential and non-judgmental pre-natal and after-birth support and material assistance to individuals and their families who are in crisis due to unplanned pregnancies. EHI offers clients new and gently-used maternity, baby, toddler, children and adult clothing; baby equipment and furniture through donors and thrift shop vouchers; and emergency baby supplies such as diapers, wipes, and formula. EHI also refers clients to resource providers for assistance with healthcare, counseling, insurance, childcare, transportation, rent, utilities, education, employment, nutrition/food, housing, finances and legal issues.

If you would like to help our Families Shine, please consider sharing your “time, treasures and talents”. Emmanuel House International is always in need of dedicated volunteers to help with walk-ins, referrals to local resource providers, distributing emergency baby supplies, organizing material donations, and special projects (such as the winter clothes and holiday toy drive, fundraising events, and client, donor and financial databases).

In addition, EHI is in need of financial donations in order to have a place where our Moms and Moms-to-Be, and their Babies and Families can come to receive the help they need. You can make a tax-deductible monetary donation by check written out to “Good Counsel” (our Fiscal Sponsor) with “Emmanuel House” written on the Memo Line or through our secure online donations page on our website (www.EmmanuelHouseInternational.org). For more information you can contact Rita at 914-393-7208 or Rita@EmmanuelHouseInternational.org.
